Tokayev Reappoints Mukhtar Tileuberdi as Foreign Minister

Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has reappointed Mukhtar Tileuberdi as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The presidential decree was signed on September 2, releasing Tileuberdi from his previous position.
Before returning to the leadership of the Foreign Ministry, Tileuberdi served as Kazakhstan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Austria and as the country’s Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna.
Mukhtar Tileuberdi is a career diplomat with more than three decades of experience in Kazakhstan’s foreign policy system. He began his service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1993 as an attaché and subsequently held a range of positions at the ministry’s central office and in Kazakhstan’s diplomatic missions abroad.
Over the course of his career, Tileuberdi served as Deputy Foreign Minister and as Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Malaysia and Indonesia. He also headed the country’s diplomatic mission in Switzerland and was concurrently accredited to Liechtenstein and the Vatican. From 2016 to 2019, he served as First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Tileuberdi first became Foreign Minister in September 2019. From January 2021, he also served as Deputy Prime Minister while continuing to lead the Foreign Ministry until April 2023. In August 2023, he was appointed Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to international organizations in Vienna.
Under the new presidential decree, Mukhtar Tileuberdi returns to the position of Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan, a post he has previously held.
