Transformations in the Kichkirik Mahalla Set an Example for Other Neighborhoods in the Capital

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inspected the results of improvement works and the amenities created for residents of the Kichkirik mahalla in the capital's Almazar district.
Established over thirty years ago, this neighborhood comprises 23 apartment buildings, housing more than 5,400 people across 1,416 apartments.
Thanks to transformations carried out under the Presidential Resolution "On Additional Measures for the Improvement, Greening, and Radical Enhancement of the Appearance of Mahallas" (dated June 25, 2024), the neighborhood has taken on a completely new look.
A total of 71.4 billion soums from the local budget was allocated for this project, which was implemented as part of the "Obod Mahalla" (Prosperous Neighborhood) state program. As a result, the area has been transformed into a truly eco-friendly space, representing a modern "green" urban environment.
A key feature of the redevelopment is the creation of a 2.4-kilometer-long walking area along the banks of the Kichkirik Canal. The embankment has become a cozy, well-appointed spot where residents can relax at any time of day.
The project included laying 12.4 kilometers of pedestrian paths and creating additional green spaces. Structures built over the water include a cozy *ayvan* (open-sided pavilion), 14 gazebos, a water wheel, and fountains.
Today, the neighborhood is home to approximately 6,500 ornamental and fruit trees. The exterior facades of residential buildings have been renovated, and hundreds of benches and lighting fixtures have been installed for residents' comfort.
Comprehensive facilities have also been created for the youth; the neighborhood now features 12 outdoor workout areas and three football fields, as well as newly opened libraries.
Entrepreneurship is actively developing in the area, with 47 business entities currently operating there. Sixty-one new jobs have been created thanks to these new projects.
While there, the Head of State issued instructions to officials regarding ensuring employment for the population and reducing poverty.
A specialized approach to addressing these issues is also being implemented in the Kichkirik *mahalla* (neighborhood).
In particular, local resident Gulnora Goyipova has established a pottery workshop and a weaving workshop. Unemployed youth and women from the *mahalla* have been engaged in these activities, learning the crafts through the traditional "master-apprentice" system.
Furthermore, a modern tower-style parking facility—one of the first of its kind in the country—has been installed here. This eight-story structure operates on an elevator-like mechanism: a central lift accepts a vehicle and places it in an available slot on either the right or left side. Consequently, a small plot of land that could previously accommodate only a few cars now allows for the simultaneous parking of up to 16 vehicles.
Additionally, an amphitheater has been built on the premises to provide a space for leisure, public events, and fostering community among *mahalla* residents.
Extensive construction and renovation work has also been carried out at the two existing state-run preschool institutions in the area.
The Head of State inspected the facilities at one of these institutions, Kindergarten No. 441.
Originally built in 1976, the facility has since undergone significant expansion. Two new buildings, with a combined capacity of 450 places, were erected on previously unused land within the complex. As a result, the kindergarten's total capacity has risen to 835 places.
Special attention is paid to the children's health at the institution; a dedicated salt room has been created to boost immunity and help prevent respiratory ailments.
Moreover, to foster the children's all-round development, additional classes have been organized in English, mental arithmetic, fine arts, music, rhythmic gymnastics, chess, and taekwondo. The President was briefed on the capabilities of the special interactive platform "Learning the Uzbek Language Through Play."
This special interactive platform offers extensive opportunities for children to easily master the state language through engaging games and digital technologies. The platform can also be used to foster independent thinking and life skills in children, as well as to introduce them to various professions.
The President also viewed the activities of a road safety club organized at the kindergarten. Emphasis was placed on the importance of promoting such clubs in other preschool educational institutions and instilling a culture of safe road behavior in children from an early age.
