On Saturday morning, April 26, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with U.S. President Donald Trump for 15 minutes in Rome before the funeral ceremony of Pope Francis. This was reported by Ukrainian Presidential Press Secretary Serhiy Nykyforov, according to Ukrainian media. Nykyforov did not disclose any further details.

Meanwhile, the White House described the brief conversation as "very productive" and promised to share more details later, according to dpa and Reuters news agencies. This was the first meeting between Trump and Zelensky following the scandal that occurred at the White House at the end of February. According to media reports, the presidents of the U.S. and Ukraine agreed to hold another meeting after the funeral ceremony concludes.

Upon arriving in Rome, Trump stated that Ukraine and Russia were "very close to an agreement" and that both sides should now meet at the highest level to end the war. "Most of the key points have been agreed upon. Stop the bloodshed now," Trump wrote on his Truth Social network.
