Türkiye Prepares New Initiatives for the Turkic World
World
Türkiye has proposed new measures to strengthen cooperation among Turkic states. The initiatives include recognizing footballers from participating countries as domestic players rather than foreign recruits and organizing a Turkic States Football Cup every two years. Kürşad Zorlu, deputy chairman of Türkiye’s ruling Justice and Development Party, announced the proposals ahead of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) summit in Ankara.
According to Zorlu, the measures are intended to create a shared football ecosystem and make transfers between clubs in participating countries easier. The proposal followed a meeting of football federations involving the Turkish Football Federation. Implementation will require agreement among the relevant parties.
The OTS summit will take place in Ankara on October 30 under the theme “Turkic Century: Unity in Language, Thought and Deed.” Türkiye is set to assume the organization’s chairmanship from Azerbaijan. More active joint work across key areas of cooperation is expected in 2027.
The summit agenda extends beyond sport. Participants are discussing a common museum card for citizens of Turkic states, dedicated service counters at airports and a shared e-commerce platform. A Turkic World Women’s Diplomacy Forum and events devoted to cultural heritage are also planned. These projects are intended to expand people-to-people contacts, facilitate travel and support trade among participating countries.
