US asked Qatar to mediate between Israel and Lebanon

The United States is trying to prevent the fighting between Israel and the Lebanese Shiite organisation Hezbollah from escalating into a full-scale war and is working to resolve the conflict, The Washington Post reported, citing sources.
"Qatar, which has brokered negotiations between Israel and Hamas, has also been asked by the United States to help mediate in Lebanon," the newspaper's interlocutor specified.
It is noted that the administration of US President Joe Biden considers the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip as a key step towards resolving the crisis in Lebanon. But U.S. officials are also exploring other options to resolve tensions.
On 22 June, the United States expressed readiness to provide military assistance to Israel in case of a full-scale conflict with Hezbollah.
