Uzbekistan and Georgia have agreed to step up economic cooperation with the goal of increasing bilateral trade to $1 billion. The issue was discussed on October 12 during a meeting between Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, as well as the 11th session of the two countries’ Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.

During his meeting with Kobakhidze, Kudratov conveyed warm greetings and best wishes from Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and expressed appreciation for Georgia’s attention to the development of bilateral relations. The sides discussed expanding trade and investment, strengthening direct business-to-business contacts and improving conditions for mutual supplies.

The commission meeting was held in Tsinandali and co-chaired by Kudratov and Georgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili. Discussions covered ways to make better use of the free trade regime and advance joint initiatives in industry, construction, agriculture, energy and finance.

Transport and logistics cooperation, particularly the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, was another priority. The route provides Uzbekistan with access to Black Sea ports and European markets. One of the key projects is the establishment of an Uzbek logistics centre at the Port of Poti. The relevant agreement has been signed, and the first pilot shipment of Uzbek products to Europe has already been completed.

The two sides also considered prospects for industrial cooperation, expanded air links, tourism development and stronger interregional ties. Potential areas of collaboration include combining Uzbekistan’s manufacturing capacity with Georgia’s expertise in technology, design, certification and product promotion.

The 12th session of the Intergovernmental Commission is scheduled to take place in Tashkent Region in February 2027, with representatives of the business communities of both countries expected to participate.
