Uzbekistan and Hungary Advance Dry Cooling Project for Nuclear Energy

Contract negotiations on introducing dry cooling systems for Uzbekistan's future nuclear power plant have entered their final stage. At the same time, the partners are exploring opportunities to expand local manufacturing and produce key components within Uzbekistan.
Uzatom hosted a working meeting with a delegation from Hungary's state-owned MVM EGI Zrt. to discuss the implementation of dry cooling systems for the country's nuclear power plant project.
The discussions focused on the next phase of engineering design using dry cooling technology, as well as measures to significantly increase the localization of manufacturing. Particular attention was given to establishing production of components in Uzbekistan.
The parties confirmed that the project has entered the final stage of contract negotiations and expressed readiness to move toward practical implementation once the remaining procedures are completed.
Participants noted that the adoption of dry cooling technology is fully aligned with Uzbekistan's strategy for conserving water resources and supports the deployment of advanced engineering solutions adapted to the country's climatic and environmental conditions.
MVM EGI Zrt. Chief Executive Officer Peter Karpati said the company highly values its constructive dialogue with Uzatom and reaffirmed its commitment to further cooperation on modern technologies supporting the sustainable development of Uzbekistan's nuclear energy sector.
The Hungarian delegation's visit is continuing. During the two-day program, the parties will hold additional technical meetings to review the parameters of the dry cooling systems and further refine engineering solutions. Their cooperation is based on a previously signed Memorandum of Understanding.
