Uzbekistan and Japan Sign Foreign Ministries’ Cooperation Programme for 2027–2028

Uzbekistan and Japan have signed a Cooperation Programme between their foreign ministries for 2027–2028. The document was signed in Tokyo on September 18 following the second Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue between the two countries.
The talks brought together Uzbekistan’s Foreign Minister Bakhtiyor Saidov and Japan’s Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi. The two sides discussed further strengthening their expanded strategic partnership, intensifying bilateral cooperation across various areas and consistently implementing agreements reached at the highest level.
Particular attention was paid to cooperation within the “Central Asia plus Japan” framework and expanding coordination in the international arena. The ministers also exchanged views on current international and regional issues. Japan highlighted opportunities for further cooperation in business, critical minerals, artificial intelligence and development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
Bakhtiyor Saidov described Japan as one of Uzbekistan’s reliable strategic partners. He said the second Strategic Dialogue reaffirmed the two countries’ shared commitment to giving their expanded strategic partnership concrete practical results.
The signed programme is aimed at developing regular dialogue and practical cooperation between the two foreign ministries. It is also intended to give new substance to bilateral relations and support the consistent implementation of agreements reached at the highest level.
The two sides agreed to continue close cooperation on international issues and expand people-to-people contacts. They also noted the importance of preparations for the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Japan next year.
