Uzbekistan and Morocco Sign Memorandum on Interparliamentary Cooperation

Uzbekistan Senate Chairperson Tanzila Narbayeva and Mohamed Ould Er-Rachid, Chairman of the House of Councillors of the Parliament of Morocco, discussed the further development of interparliamentary ties. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Narbayeva noted that Morocco is one of Uzbekistan’s important partners in North Africa. She highlighted the historical, spiritual and cultural ties between the two countries, as well as their mutual respect and friendly relations.
The sides discussed the role of parliamentary diplomacy in further strengthening bilateral relations. Particular attention was given to increasing mutual visits, expanding the activities of interparliamentary friendship groups, and exchanging experience in legislation and parliamentary oversight.
The meeting also addressed economic cooperation. The participants exchanged views on promoting investment cooperation and expanding direct contacts between the private sectors of the two countries.
Agriculture, food security and energy were identified as promising areas for cooperation. The sides also discussed expanding cultural and humanitarian ties and developing cooperation in tourism.
Following the meeting, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the House of Councillors of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco signed a Memorandum of Understanding on interparliamentary cooperation.
The document is aimed at establishing systematic and effective parliamentary dialogue between the two countries.
