The launch of the new mechanism is intended to strengthen Uzbek-American ties and provide a foundation for joint initiatives. According to Uzbekistan’s foreign minister, the two sides placed particular emphasis on the full and timely implementation of agreements reached by the leaders of both countries.

The agenda covered energy, critical minerals and advanced technologies. The officials also discussed cooperation in education, cultural and humanitarian exchanges, and security.

Following their bilateral talks, Saidov and Rubio signed the Artemis Accords, which establish principles for international cooperation in the peaceful exploration and use of the Moon, Mars, comets and asteroids. Uzbekistan became the 77th country to sign the accords.

The agreement creates new opportunities for Uzbekistan to expand cooperation with NASA and the space agencies of other signatory countries, train national specialists and facilitate the transfer of space technologies.

As part of the C5+1 ministerial meeting, Saidov and Rubio also attended the exhibition “Uzbekistan and the United States: A Shared History Across Centuries and Continents.” Exhibits included the scientific legacy of Ahmad al-Farghani, Edgar Allan Poe’s poetry collection dedicated to Amir Temur, and works by American travellers about Uzbekistan.

Another section highlighted the sister-city relationship between Tashkent and Seattle, established in 1973. The exhibition underscored the historical ties between the two peoples and opportunities to further develop cooperation in science and culture.
