Uzbekistan has strengthened its position in the global digital landscape by becoming one of the founding members of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO). Membership in the new international platform is expected to create fresh opportunities for technological development, knowledge exchange, and expanded cooperation in artificial intelligence.
The agreement establishing WAICO was signed on 16 July during the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai. The ceremony was attended by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, representatives of the founding states, international organizations, and the diplomatic corps.
On behalf of Uzbekistan, the agreement was signed by Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov, making the country one of the founding states of the new organization.
WAICO aims to promote international cooperation in artificial intelligence, facilitate the exchange of advanced technologies, and develop common approaches to the safe and responsible use of AI while supporting the adoption of innovative solutions.
Participation in the organization is expected to strengthen Uzbekistan's role in the global AI ecosystem, expand cooperation with leading international partners, and attract advanced technologies, expertise, and global best practices to support the country's digital transformation.
