Uzbekistan Defeats India to Retain Lead at Chess Olympiad

Uzbekistan defeated defending champions India 2.5–1.5 in the sixth round of the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand. The victory allowed Uzbekistan to retain first place in the standings.
Before the match, both teams had five wins and 10 points, making the clash between the leaders one of the highlights of the sixth round. On the first board, Nodirbek Abdusattorov drew with Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa. Javokhir Sindarov also drew with Arjun Erigaisi on the second board.
On board four, Shamsiddin Vokhidov drew with reigning world champion Gukesh Dommaraju. The decisive result came in the game between Nodirbek Yakubboev and Nihal Sarin.
The Indian grandmaster gained an advantage in both position and time during the game, but then made several mistakes. Yakubboev capitalized on them and converted the game into a win, securing Uzbekistan’s overall 2.5–1.5 victory.
After six rounds, Uzbekistan-1 has 12 points and leads the standings outright. China and Armenia have 11 points each, while India has 10.
Before facing India, Uzbekistan defeated Jamaica 4–0, Peru 3.5–0.5, Austria 3.5–1.5, Türkiye 2.5–1.5 and Hungary 4–0.
