According to the sources, British representatives working in the US-led coordination mission for Gaza in Israel, as well as UK diplomats based in Ramallah in the West Bank, must leave the country within seven days. The Israeli decision followed an announcement by UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband that Britain would ban trade with Jewish settlements in the West Bank, which are considered illegal under international law. London also plans measures against companies operating in the settlements and a ban on advertising goods and services linked to them. According to Miliband, the restrictions will not affect trade with Israel within its internationally recognized borders. The project is led by Dania Asilbekova, Doctor of Biological Sciences and leading researcher at the Institute&rsquo;s Laboratory of Physical Research Methods. The researchers are studying basil varieties, mountain basil, kiyikўt, arslonquloq and various species of astragalus growing and cultivated in Uzbekistan. Essential oils and other biologically active compounds contained in the plant material are being examined using modern laboratory methods. Initial studies have allowed the scientists to select the most promising types of local plant material for further development and obtain technological samples of extracts. Their antioxidant activity is associated with the ability to counter oxidative processes and the effects of free radicals, while antihypoxic activity refers to the ability to support cell viability under oxygen-deficient conditions. The research is continuing, with scientists determining the composition of active extracts, studying their properties and conducting additional tests to confirm the findings. Upon completion of the project, the team plans to create a phytocomplex containing a range of biologically active compounds derived from locally sourced plant material. In the longer term, the findings may provide a scientific and technological basis for developing products based on local plant raw materials for the food and cosmetics industries.
