Uzbekistan Introduces Criminal Liability for Domestic Violence Against Children
Changes have been made to both the Criminal Code and the Administrative Responsibility Code. Article 59-2 (domestic violence) of the Administrative Responsibility Code and Article 126-1 (domestic violence) of the Criminal Code now include provisions establishing liability for committing domestic violence against a child.

According to preliminary data, the law was developed based on recommendations from the World Bank to improve the effectiveness of measures aimed at preventing oppression and violence against children and women, and to enhance the moral atmosphere in families. In Uzbekistan, 55.6% of the 894 domestic violence-related crimes committed between 2023 and May of this year, or 506 cases, were closed due to reconciliation between the parties. In the remaining 44.4%, or 388 cases, the court issued corresponding verdicts.

Additionally, a new procedure has been introduced that allows for the submission of a reconciliation request in domestic violence cases during the trial stage, rather than during the investigation and preliminary inquiry stage.
