Uzbekistan Railways Holds Series of Strategic Talks in Berlin

A delegation of Uzbekistan Railways JSC, headed by First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board H. Rakhmetov, held an intensive programme of meetings on the sidelines of InnoTrans 2026, the world’s largest exhibition of transport technologies. The talks, held in the German capital, covered several key areas of international cooperation and reinforced Uzbekistan’s position as an active participant in global technological and logistics processes in the railway sector.
One of the central events of the business programme was a meeting with representatives of the European Commission responsible for international partnerships. Peteris Ustubs, Director for Asia, Central Asia and the Pacific region, expressed appreciation to the management of Uzbekistan Railways JSC for its active participation in the exhibition and highlighted its strategic importance. Following the talks, EU representatives stated their readiness to provide comprehensive support for the development of Uzbekistan’s railway sector.
A landmark meeting was also held with the management of CRRC Corporation Limited, the global leader in railway rolling stock manufacturing. Sun Yuncai, Chairman of the Board of Directors, particularly highlighted the historic nature of the visit: Uzbekistan was represented at InnoTrans by such a high-level delegation for the first time, demonstrating the country’s ambitious plans to modernise its railway infrastructure.
“We are pleased to see Uzbekistan among the active participants of the global international railway transport exhibition,” said the head of CRRC Corporation Limited.
The talks covered ongoing joint projects, including technical support for new trains and the acquisition of locomotives. One of the key outcomes was consideration of a proposal to establish an innovative service centre for locomotive repair and maintenance on the basis of Uzbekistan Railways’ industrial enterprises, as well as to launch a project for the production of modern freight wagons equipped with gauge-changing capabilities. The parties confirmed their intention to expand the scope of cooperation.
The third major area of cooperation was negotiations with Lee Yong-bae, Chairman of the Board of Directors of South Korean company Hyundai Rotem. A key outcome of the meeting was an agreement to modify the two final carriages of high-speed trains in order to improve passenger comfort. Under the agreement, the company expressed its readiness to replace the existing business-class seats with VIP seats and tables, with one such carriage to be included in each trainset.
In addition, the parties began discussing the concept of a new contract for the purchase of eight high-speed electric trains. They reached a mutual understanding on including a VIP carriage with modern capsule-style seats in each new trainset. The final configuration, exact number of seats and technical specifications will be worked out in detail during the preparation of the technical documentation.
The delegation also focused on cooperation with European railway administrations. During talks with the Serbian Railway Administration, the parties discussed the potential participation of Uzbekistan Railways JSC in future joint projects aimed at modernising Serbia’s main railway lines.
At the same time, negotiations with Deutsche Bahn resulted in agreements to send Uzbek railway specialists for professional training, as well as to launch joint research and development projects in the railway sector.
The exhibition programme also included a number of meetings with Huawei and other leading technology companies on the development of digitalisation and innovation in the railway industry.
A separate series of talks was held with Lithuanian Railways JSC, Estonian Railways JSC, Latvian Railways JSC and Czech company Škoda Group. During these meetings, the parties exchanged experience in operating railway equipment under different climatic conditions and discussed potential areas of common interest.
Held every two years, InnoTrans is one of the main platforms for identifying global trends in the railway industry.
