Uzbekistan Shortlisted to Host the Games of the Future 2027

Uzbekistan is bidding to host the international Games of the Future in 2027. The country has been shortlisted alongside Brazil, Serbia and South Africa as one of four candidates whose bids are being considered by the organizers.

A final decision on the host has not yet been made. Organizers are evaluating the submitted proposals and carrying out the necessary consultations and inspection procedures.
Dan Merkley, CEO of Phygital International, highlighted Uzbekistan’s strong interest in hosting the event and its commitment to developing phygital sport. “We take their bid very seriously,” he said, referring to Tashkent’s proposal.
According to Merkley, the global phygital ecosystem continues to expand. It currently includes 115 countries. National associations in these countries develop phygital sport locally, organize domestic competitions and help select leading athletes and teams for the international stage of the Games of the Future.
Uzbekistan’s interest in hosting the event was already demonstrated in 2024, when President Shavkat Mirziyoyev proposed holding the 2026 edition in the country. The hosting rights, however, were awarded to Kazakhstan, and the 2026 Games of the Future were held in Astana.
The Games of the Future combine traditional sports with esports. Participants compete across both digital and physical stages, creating the hybrid format known as phygital sport.
The first Games of the Future were held in Kazan in 2024. The 2025 edition took place in the United Arab Emirates, while Kazakhstan hosted the 2026 tournament. The programme includes phygital football and basketball, shooters, combat sports and dancing, as well as esports disciplines such as Dota 2, MLBB and PUBG: Battlegrounds.
Uzbekistan’s 2027 bid is therefore being considered as part of the continued international expansion of the phygital ecosystem and the global reach of the Games of the Future.
