Uzbekistan Strengthens Ties with China Through Parliamentary and Academic Dialogue

A delegation from Uzbekistan led by Sodiq Safoyev, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, participated in an international conference in Beijing on August 24–26 focused on cooperation and building a community with a shared future among Asian countries. The visit also included discussions on expanding parliamentary ties and cooperation between leading higher education and research institutions in Uzbekistan and China.
The conference, titled “A Shared Future, a New Chapter for Asia: Building a Community with a Shared Future for Asian Countries,” brought together more than 200 participants, including political and public figures from various countries, representatives of Chinese ministries and agencies, and members of the diplomatic corps.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Sodiq Safoyev outlined the main directions, goals and objectives of reforms being implemented in Uzbekistan as part of the country’s efforts to build a New Uzbekistan. He also put forward proposals aimed at further strengthening the atmosphere of good-neighborliness and cooperation, peace and friendship that has developed across Asia in recent years.
Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening solidarity, mutual trust and cooperation among Asian countries and promoting shared progress and prosperity.
The Uzbek delegation also held talks with Chinese officials and representatives of leading academic institutions. During a meeting with Wang Dongming, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, the sides discussed further development of inter-parliamentary cooperation and implementation of tasks set by the leaders of Uzbekistan and China. They also considered the possibility of organizing a visit to Uzbekistan by a delegation of the National People’s Congress.
The meeting noted that Uzbekistan-China relations have reached a high level in recent years, with Wang Dongming highlighting the important role played by the two countries’ leaders in this process.
The academic agenda included meetings with Gao Xiang, President of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Gao Song, President of Peking University, and Li Luming, President of Tsinghua University. The participants exchanged views on further cooperation between the University of World Economy and Diplomacy and leading Chinese universities and research institutions, as well as on identifying new areas of academic and research cooperation.
