Uzbekistan Suffer First Chess Olympiad Defeat Against Germany

Uzbekistan’s main men’s team suffered its first defeat at the 46th World Chess Olympiad in Samarkand. Germany won the eighth-round match 2.5-1.5, ending Uzbekistan’s seven-match winning streak.
Nodirbek Abdusattorov drew with Vincent Keymer, while Javokhir Sindarov defeated Matthias Bluebaum. On boards three and four, Nodirbek Yakubboev and Shamsiddin Vokhidov lost to brothers Frederik and Rasmus Svane.
After eight rounds, Uzbekistan and Germany share the lead with 14 match points each. Three rounds remain in the tournament.
Other Uzbekistan teams recorded mixed results in round eight. The main and third women’s teams defeated the Netherlands and Jamaica 3-1, while the second men’s team beat England 2.5-1.5.
Uzbekistan’s main men’s team will play its ninth-round match on September 25.
