Uzbekistan to Host 16th UN Crime Congress in 2031

Uzbekistan will host the 16th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in 2031. Saida Mirziyoyeva announced the decision while attending the 15th UN Crime Congress, being held in Abu Dhabi from September 26 to October 1, 2026. The dates of the current congress are confirmed by official UN materials.
Around 5,000 representatives from different countries are taking part in the congress. The agenda includes combating transnational crime, terrorism, drug trafficking and corruption, addressing environmental offences, protecting children, strengthening criminal justice systems and upholding the rule of law. The UN agenda also covers emerging forms of crime, international cooperation and the use of technology.
On the sidelines of the congress, Saida Mirziyoyeva met with Monica Juma, UN Deputy Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. According to Mirziyoyeva, Uzbekistan is actively cooperating with UNODC and implementing joint projects.
The decision to hold the next congress in Uzbekistan is of particular importance for the country. Mirziyoyeva said that participating states supported Uzbekistan’s initiative to host the event and that this was reflected in the final declaration. She described the support as an important sign of international confidence in Uzbekistan, its openness and readiness for dialogue.
UN Congresses on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice are held every five years and serve as one of the largest international platforms for cooperation in this field. The current Abu Dhabi congress includes plenary and thematic sessions focused on crime prevention, criminal justice and international cooperation.
“Five years of preparation lie ahead. And in 2031, the republic will welcome delegates from around the world,” Saida Mirziyoyeva said.
