Uzbekistan will host the 1st International Central Asian Student Sports Forum in Tashkent and Samarkand from September 29 to October 2, 2026. The event is being held in connection with a visit by Leonz Eder, President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
The forum will bring together FISU leadership and representatives of student sports federations from across the region. Its main objectives are to advance university sports, strengthen international cooperation and promote the exchange of experience among Central Asian countries.
During his visit, Eder will review Uzbekistan’s developing model for student sports, including its organizational mechanisms and practical results. The programme is also intended to present Uzbekistan’s experience in this field to the international sports community.
Meetings and discussions involving representatives of Central Asian countries and international organizations are planned as part of the forum. Participants will address current issues in university sports, modern approaches to its development, experience sharing and opportunities for joint projects.
Delegations are expected to include FISU leadership and representatives of student sports federations from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.
A separate part of the programme will focus on the Five Initiatives student Olympiad. An opening ceremony for the competitions is scheduled for September 29 at Tashkent University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, with FISU President Leonz Eder expected to attend. The Olympiad for university students covers several sporting disciplines.
The forum will continue through October 2, providing a platform to discuss further cooperation between Central Asian university sports organizations and FISU.
