Uzbekistan and the United Kingdom have discussed ways to expand trade and economic ties, attract investment and strengthen industrial cooperation. The second meeting of the Uzbekistan–UK Joint Economic Committee was held in Tashkent on 9 October, co-chaired by Laziz Kudratov, Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, and Anas Sarwar, the UK Minister of State for Trade.
Bilateral trade increased by 12.6% in January–August 2026, approaching $250 million. A key focus of the discussions was improving access for Uzbek products to the British market.
The sides considered opportunities under the UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), alongside measures to simplify certification procedures and remove technical barriers. They also discussed promoting Uzbek goods through British retail chains.
The agenda included the implementation of 46 projects and financing opportunities involving UK Export Finance, the British export credit agency. Participants also discussed the development of the Tashkent International Financial Centre and opportunities to expand cooperation in electrical engineering, critical minerals, pharmaceuticals and transport equipment manufacturing.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties signed a protocol formalising the agreements reached. The document covers cooperation in trade, investment, industry, digital technologies, finance and healthcare, setting out the areas addressed during discussions on the further development of bilateral economic ties.
