Uzbekistan Unveils Next-Generation “Shunqor-88” Interceptor Drone

Uzbekistan has unveiled the “Shunqor-88” interceptor drone, an innovative unmanned system designed to counter hostile drones. Developed by a team led by Bilolxon Ismoilov as part of the Engineers of the Future competition, the project highlights the country's growing engineering and technology capabilities.
According to the developers, the drone can reach speeds of up to 450 km/h and engage unmanned aerial targets at distances of 8 to 10 kilometres. It is intended to enhance airspace protection and provide a rapid response to potential aerial threats.
The development team also emphasizes the project's cost efficiency. They estimate that manufacturing a single interceptor drone would cost around US$20,000–50,000, compared with US$2–5 million for a single surface-to-air missile used in conventional air defence systems.
The developers believe the technology could provide a more affordable alternative for counter-drone operations while supporting the advancement of Uzbekistan's domestic engineering expertise.
