Uzbekistan’s experience in applying space technologies and its preparations to host the International Astronautical Congress in Samarkand in 2028 have been presented at international events ahead of IAC-2026. The 77th International Astronautical Congress will take place on October 5–9 in Antalya, Türkiye, at the venue in Belek.
Ahead of the congress, the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) held the 33rd UN/IAF Workshop. The event took place on October 3–4 as part of the IAC-2026 programme and focused on space economy opportunities for emerging nations.
During the panel session “The Transformative Impact of Space Technologies in Developing Countries,” a representative of Uzbekistan’s Center for Space Monitoring and Geoinformation Technologies presented a paper titled “The Impact of Earth Remote Sensing on Socio-Economic Decision-Making: Uzbekistan’s Experience.”
Particular attention was given to turning satellite data into practical information for public administration. The presentation covered the use of space-based data for monitoring water and natural resources, supporting agriculture, environmental monitoring and addressing other socio-economic tasks.
The IAC Host Summit was also held ahead of IAC-2026, focusing on preparations for future congresses. Mukhiddin Ibragimov, Deputy Director of the Uzcosmos Agency, took part in the event and presented Uzbekistan’s preparations for hosting IAC-2028 in Samarkand. His participation is listed in the IAF programme.
The presentation outlined plans to create a national pavilion of Uzbekistan, showcase the country’s space potential and ongoing projects to an international audience, and promote Samarkand as the host city of IAC-2028.
The plans also include a series of roadshows and promotional events in Europe, the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East and the Americas in 2026–2027.
IAC-2028 will officially take place in Samarkand on October 9–13, 2028.
