Diplomatic efforts for a ceasefire have hit a deadlock: following inconclusive talks in Islamabad, Tehran has officially confirmed its readiness for multi-year defense in the war against the United States. The Iranian side states it will not make concessions on matters of state sovereignty or national dignity.

The representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Abdul Majid Hakim Ilahi, emphasized that the Islamic Republic did not initiate the conflict but is prepared to defend its rights for "two, three, or five years" if necessary. According to him, the country has no intention of submitting to external pressure or ceding control of its territories and rights to another party. This statement comes amidst the ongoing military operation launched by the US and Israel on February 28, 2024.

Despite the two-week mutual ceasefire previously announced by Donald Trump on April 7, the attempt to reach a long-term settlement during negotiations in Pakistan failed. The parties faced deep-seated contradictions that prevented the consolidation of a peace agreement. Currently, the regional situation remains critical as Tehran effectively shifts toward the rhetoric of a long-term war of attrition, rejecting any conditions it deems humiliating.
