Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan described the agreement as a historic step and said it reflects an approach based on regional responsibility and joint efforts to ensure security. Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman said the parties had confirmed their readiness to activate the areas covered by the Mecca Agreement, strengthen integration and respond jointly to common challenges. Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a joint defense agreement in Mecca on August 7, 2026. The agreement establishes a collective response principle under which an armed attack on any of the three countries will be treated as an attack on the others.

Ukrainian lawmaker Oleksii Honcharenko said the US representatives were expected to arrive in Kyiv on Sunday, September 6, after visiting Moscow on Saturday, September 5. Russia&rsquo;s state news agency TASS, citing an unnamed source, also reported that Witkoff and Kushner could first travel to Moscow and then visit Kyiv on September 5&ndash;6. The 304.84-km section in Kyrgyzstan is the most challenging part of the project. It is being built as a single-track railway with diesel traction and provision for future electrification. The design speed is 120 km/h, with 20 stations planned, including the Torugart border station, Makmal transshipment station and Jalal-Abad border station. According to a representative of China Railway International, temporary access roads and power-supply facilities along the entire Kyrgyz section have been completed and commissioned. Construction has started on 26 of 29 new tunnels, work is underway on 40 of 50 bridges, and construction has begun on 83 of 107 trackbed sections. Tunnel construction remains a major focus as the route crosses the Moldotoo, Haylebeyt and Fergana mountain ranges. High seismic activity, significant geostresses, permafrost, low temperatures, strong winds and difficult engineering and geological conditions are adding to the complexity of the works. The Kashgar&ndash;Andijan railway will stretch for more than 530 km in total. China is responsible for construction of the section on its territory, while Uzbekistan is responsible for modernizing its section. Construction of the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway has entered an active phase. The project is particularly important for Uzbekistan: the Kashgar–Torugart–Arpa–Makmal–Jalal-Abad–Andijan route will directly connect the country’s east with China through Kyrgyzstan, creating additional opportunities for transit and freight transport.

Before taking the new post, Abdurakhmonov headed Uzbekistan&rsquo;s diplomatic mission in Japan and had served as the country&rsquo;s ambassador to Japan since July 2021. He is 52 years old. Abdurakhmonov graduated from Tashkent Economic University in 1996. From 1998 to 2001, he pursued a master&rsquo;s degree at Otaru University of Commerce in Japan, followed by doctoral studies at Hokkaido University from 2001 to 2004. He worked as a research fellow at the same university in 2006&ndash;2008. His professional career includes positions in the private sector and public administration. From 2004 to 2006, Abdurakhmonov worked as a manager at Coca-Cola Uzbekistan LLC, and from 2008 to 2017 he served as CEO of MTRUST in Japan. In 2018&ndash;2021, he was Deputy Governor of Fergana Region and Head of its Investment and Foreign Trade Department. He later briefly headed the Investment Department of Uzbekistan&rsquo;s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Under a separate resolution, Behzod Anvarovich Musaev was relieved of his position as Director of the Migration Agency due to his transfer to another job. He had headed the agency since September 2024. Musaev previously held several senior government positions, including Minister of Employment and Poverty Reduction and Minister of Health. He also served as Deputy Prime Minister for Social Development, Chairman of the Accounts Chamber and Chairman of the State Tax Committee.
