Uzbekistan’s First Lady, Ziroat Mirziyoyeva, attended the first meeting of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) Council on Family and Women in Ankara, held on the sidelines of the organization’s 13th summit.
The Council on Family and Women was established during the summit to promote cooperation among Turkic states in strengthening the family institution, protecting women’s rights and broadening their opportunities. The first meeting of its High Honorary Council, comprising the spouses of heads of state and government, was held under the theme “From Solidarity to Institutional Cooperation: Family and Women in the Turkic World.”
In her address, Mirziyoyeva put forward initiatives to expand girls’ access to modern education and promote women’s entrepreneurship. She emphasized the importance of valuing women’s knowledge and work, as well as fostering mutual respect and harmony within the family.
“When a woman’s knowledge and work are valued, and mutual respect and harmony prevail in the family, society as a whole becomes stronger,” Uzbekistan’s First Lady said.
Her proposals also covered the protection of motherhood and childhood, the development of inclusive education and support for families in need. Mirziyoyeva placed particular emphasis on creating a safe online environment for children and adolescents.
At the end of her address, Ziroat Mirziyoyeva thanked Türkiye’s First Lady, Emine Erdoğan, for organizing the meeting. She expressed hope that the decisions adopted would help strengthen family well-being, expand opportunities for women and improve children’s lives.
The inaugural meeting marked the start of a new format of cooperation within the OTS. The Council is intended to facilitate the exchange of experience and the development of joint approaches to family-related issues, women’s participation in social and economic life, and child protection. Her participation highlights family and women’s issues in the OTS agenda. The proposals address education, women’s economic participation, inclusion and online safety for minors. Family issues remain central.
