A Century of Turkology: Turkic World Week Unites Scholars and Leaders During Azerbaijan’s Chairmanship
World
The revival of century-old traditions of cultural integration and the strengthening of humanitarian partnerships among fraternal nations have ascended to a new strategic level within the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). The official launch of the Turkic World Week, dedicated to the centenary of the First Turkology Congress, marked a milestone event confirming the resolve of regional leaders to construct a consolidated scientific and cultural landscape. The initiative to host this grand forum was originally put forward by the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, during the 12th Summit of the OTS Council of Heads of State in Gabala last October, and has been successfully realized during Azerbaijan's current chairmanship of the organization.
In his official address to the forum participants, Ilham Aliyev emphasized the profound symbolism of the occasion and recalled that exactly one hundred years ago, the historic First Turkology Congress, held at the Ismailiyya Palace in Baku, laid a durable foundation for the cultural convergence of Turkic peoples. According to the Azerbaijani leader, these progressive ideas from a century ago now underpin all pivotal OTS initiatives, while the Turkic family is steadily transforming into an influential global center of power. The head of state assured that Baku would continue to exert maximum efforts to reinforce the unbreakable bonds of alliance within the organization.
This trajectory toward comprehensive alignment was firmly endorsed by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. In his welcoming message to the delegates, he expressed sincere gratitude to Ilham Aliyev for the timely initiative and highlighted Azerbaijan's exceptional role in promoting shared Turkic values. Tokayev emphasized that under current conditions of geopolitical volatility, the preservation, in-depth study, and popularization of a common spiritual heritage assume paramount importance. The Kazakh leader called for close academic interaction, stressing that strengthening connections between research scholars and broadening cultural dialogue represent the primary objectives of the newly opened, prestigious forum.
