A powerful earthquake occurred near the sacred city of Shigatse in Tibet

Several hours ago, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake struck the sacred city of Shigatse, China, resulting in hundreds of fatalities. Chinese media reports that over a thousand homes have been destroyed and many people injured. Within hours following the main earthquake, 50 additional aftershocks were recorded.
Earlier, Chinese press reported that a 7.1 magnitude earthquake occurred on Tuesday morning in Tibet's mountainous region, killing at least 53 people and injuring 62. Updated reports indicate that the death toll has surpassed one hundred, with assistance provided to nearly two hundred injured individuals.
The government has dispatched 22,000 relief items to the region, including cotton tents, quilted coats, blankets, and modular bedding sets. The earthquake, which struck the sacred city of Shigatse around 9:00 AM local time, was felt in the Shigatse region, home to 800,000 residents.
Additionally, following the initial earthquake in the Tingri region, located 240 miles from Tibet's capital Lhasa, a series of tremors with magnitudes up to 4.4 were recorded.
