The Asian Development Bank (ADB) provided $125 million to Uzbekistan for the modernization of the water resources management system. The funds will be spent on the introduction of intelligent technologies, increasing the efficiency of water supply, and adapting to climate change. The project will also cover the digitalization of water consumption accounting and training of specialists.
The ADB has officially confirmed the allocation of $125 million to Uzbekistan to improve the country's water resources. The main goal of the project is to optimize water supply management, implement digital technologies, and improve water safety.
The project provides for the modernization of the national company "Uzsuvtaminot" and its regional branches. The installation of a water metering and telemetry system at the main water use facilities will be completed, which will ensure transparency and control of consumption. It is planned to inventory the existing water supply infrastructure, including about 4 million connections, as well as create a digital map of water networks.
"Climate change and inefficient water consumption are the main challenges for Uzbekistan. Our project is aimed at streamlining water use, reducing energy costs, and increasing operational efficiency, which will also help reduce CO2 emissions," said Kanokpan Lao-Araya, Head of the ADB's Uzbekistan office.
Within the framework of the project, climate-adapted IT solutions for utility management will be implemented, and customer services will be improved. Updating the financial management system will increase the transparency of reporting in accordance with international standards.
The implementation of the project is expected to reduce operating costs, increase labor productivity, and improve the quality of water supply for millions of citizens.
