President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the 80th anniversary session of the UN General Assembly in New York, presenting initiatives on global security, Central Asian development, and tackling major international challenges.

He stressed that the world is facing growing conflicts, inequality, and humanitarian crises, calling for reform and expansion of the UN Security Council to better represent the interests of developing countries.

Highlighting Uzbekistan’s transformation, Mirziyoyev noted that poverty has dropped from 35% to 6.6%, preschool coverage has risen from 27% to 78%, and higher education enrollment from 9% to 42%. He proposed hosting a World Summit on Vocational Education and a Global Water Conservation Forum in Tashkent, as well as creating an international platform for AI knowledge-sharing.

The President emphasized deepening regional cooperation in Central Asia, where trade and investment volumes have increased fivefold in recent years. He suggested adopting a UN resolution in support of regional partnership and establishing a hub for green technologies.

On international issues, Mirziyoyev urged political dialogue in Afghanistan, an end to hostilities in Gaza, and a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. He also called for joint action against terrorism, climate change, and water scarcity.

In conclusion, the Uzbek leader proposed creating a World Youth Movement for Peace with its headquarters in Uzbekistan and announced the opening of the Center for Islamic Civilization in Tashkent.
