An Innovative Space for Cultivating a New Generation of Engineers

During his visit to the Almazar district, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev also inspected the operations of the "ToshTech" technical university.
Established pursuant to a decree by the Head of State dated September 8, 2025, this university represents a significant step in transforming the higher engineering education system. The total cost of the project is 69.5 billion soums.
These funds were used to fully renovate the seven-story academic building of the Tashkent State Technical University and equip it with modern laboratories and educational facilities.
The institution is a state-run higher education establishment possessing academic, financial, and organizational-managerial autonomy. Under the approved program, relevant faculties and departments of the Tashkent State Technical University will be gradually transformed into this new innovative ecosystem by 2030.
The new university has attracted great interest among young people. A total of 1,654 applicants submitted applications for the 2026/2027 academic year. The 400 most capable and talented young men and women were selected and admitted. All students in the inaugural cohort are studying on full state grants. This benefit will continue, with grants extending to students admitted up to the 2029/2030 academic year.
Instruction at the university is conducted entirely in English. Classes are taught by both local scholars and highly qualified international specialists.
Students pursue studies in four fields: industrial engineering and management, electrical engineering, energy engineering, and materials science and nanotechnology.
"ToshTech" is integrated with internationally recognized educational brands. The university was established in close cooperation with leading global institutions—including Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China), Polytechnic University of Milan (Italy), and Bremen University of Applied Sciences (Germany)—as well as the world-renowned consulting firm Boston Consulting Group.
The university’s primary goal is to move beyond dry theory; from their very first years, students learn to work on real industrial projects and solve complex engineering challenges. To this end, the university has forged close partnerships with leading domestic and international industrial companies, enabling students to gain practical experience during their studies and secure guaranteed employment upon graduation. These partners include major companies such as ACWA Power and UzAuto Motors, as well as the joint-stock companies Thermal Power Plants and Regional Electric Networks.
The Head of State was briefed on the university’s future plans.
During discussions with faculty and students, it was noted that the "ToshTech" technical university is intended to become an innovation hub that trains a new generation of engineers capable of elevating the country's industrial potential to a new level.
"I wish to emphasize once again that a person's possessions, social status, and other material assets are temporary and fleeting; however, neither any person nor any force can take away the knowledge and experience one possesses. Knowledge is the most reliable and beneficial investment a person can make," the President said.
