Three weeks after voting day, Honduras has officially declared a winner in its presidential election — businessman Nasry Asfura, who was openly backed by Donald Trump.

Asfura Wins Honduras Presidential Election
Nasry Asfura, a 67-year-old businessman representing right-wing political forces, has won Honduras’ presidential election. The official results were announced three weeks after the vote due to technical issues and allegations of irregularities during the vote count.

According to the electoral commission, Asfura secured 40.1% of the vote. His closest rival, television host and fellow right-wing candidate Salvador Nasralla, received 39.5%. Rixi Moncada, the candidate of the ruling left-wing Libre party, finished third with 19.2%.

Following the confirmation of the results, Asfura pledged to lead the country responsibly. “Honduras, I am ready to govern. I will not let you down,” he wrote on social media.

The president-elect is set to take office on January 27, serving a term from 2026 to 2030.

The United States welcomed Asfura’s victory. Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated the president-elect and said Washington is ready to work with his administration to promote prosperity and security in the Western Hemisphere.

Donald Trump had previously endorsed Asfura ahead of the election, calling him “the only true friend of freedom in Honduras” and urging voters to support him. Trump also warned that U.S. financial aid to Honduras could be cut if Asfura lost.
