According to a 2024 report by the International Monetary Fund, Azerbaijan has entered the top seven countries favourable for investment, as reported by the portal 1news.az.

Azerbaijan is becoming the investment centre of the region
The Fund assesses Azerbaijan as one of the leaders among nations with the most significant and developed investment potential.

Investors are attracted to Azerbaijan not only by its traditionally well-developed oil and gas sector but also by its non-oil sectors of the economy. In particular, the agricultural, transport-logistics, and communications sectors draw investor attention. Additionally, alternative energy and high technologies are becoming increasingly relevant today.

Over the last thirty years, Azerbaijan's investment portfolio has reached a multi-billion-dollar scale. The total volume of investments in the country has exceeded $300 billion, with almost $200 billion invested in the non-oil sector.

The investment attractiveness of the country is likely to be significantly enhanced by the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference COP29. It is highly probable that the inflow of foreign investments will continue to grow in the subsequent period.

It should be noted that as an important exporter of oil and gas to the global markets, Azerbaijan aims to continue diversifying its economy to reduce its dependency on fossil fuels.

Azerbaijan's stable reputation as a reliable partner and its favourable investment climate attract major companies from the Middle East. One such company is Masdar from the United Arab Emirates, which has established a strong presence in the global renewable energy market.

Last autumn, the largest solar power plant in the Caspian region and the CIS was inaugurated in Azerbaijan. The Garadagh Solar Power Plant, with a capacity of 230 MW, was built in record time with an investment of $262 million. This is the first industrial-scale solar power plant in Azerbaijan built with foreign investments.

Azerbaijan also closely collaborates with partners to develop and potentially export hydrogen, including "green hydrogen."

It should be reminded that the events of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) will take place at the Baku Olympic Stadium, with the main event scheduled for November 22.
