A post of the Armenian Armed Forces in the Nerkin Khanda district in Syunik region was shelled by the Azerbaijani State Border Guard Service. The actions of the Azerbaijani army were called a "retaliation operation" and related to a provocation by Yerevan.
"As a result of the operation, the combat post of the Armenian Armed Forces near the Nerkin-And settlement of Gafan district, where our soldiers were fired upon yesterday (Monday), was completely destroyed, and the combat positions were silenced," said a statement by Azerbaijan's State Border Service.
The ministry stressed that Baku would respond to provocations on the border with decisive measures, noting that the responsibility for the consequences of the attack lies with the military leadership of Yerevan.
Earlier, the Armenian Defence Ministry reported the death of two servicemen on the border due to shelling by Azerbaijan.
