Head of State Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, along with their spouses, visited the world-famous monuments of Bukhara – the Samanid Mausoleum, the Ark Fortress, the Poi-Kalon and Labi-Hauz complexes, and the Kukeldash Madrasah.

Azerbaijani guests visited ancient Bukhara
The distinguished guests were given detailed information about the history of these unique monuments, their architectural features, and their significance in the development of science, culture, and urban development in the East.

The tour began with the Samanid Mausoleum, built by Ismail Samani as a family tomb. The mausoleum was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1993.

The leaders then visited the Ark Fortress – an ancient citadel that served as the political and administrative center of Bukhara for many centuries. Archaeological and historical evidence indicates that the fortress developed over a long period of time and, in its later form, served as the residence of Bukharan rulers. Today, the Ark remains one of the city's main symbols and an important part of Bukhara's historic center.

The Poi-Kalon ensemble is one of the most majestic architectural complexes in Central Asia. Its dominant feature is the famous Kalon Minaret, built in 1127, which for centuries served not only as Bukhara's architectural landmark but also as a true symbol of the city.

The ensemble also includes the Kalon Mosque, dating back to the early 16th century, and the Mir-Arab Madrasah. This complex is rightfully considered one of the crown jewels of historic Bukhara during the Shaybanid period.

The distinguished guests were particularly impressed by the Labi-Khauz ensemble – one of the most recognizable public spaces in old Bukhara, built around an ancient reservoir.

It includes the Kukeldash Madrasah, the khanaka, and the Nadir Divanbegi Madrasah. For centuries, this corner of the city has remained a magnet for residents, travelers, and scholars, preserving the unique atmosphere of medieval Bukhara to this day.

During the visit, examples of folk crafts, elements of traditional decorative art, and distinctive features of the artistic design of monuments were also on display.

The Azerbaijani guests were told about Bukhara's centuries-old history as one of the largest centers of Islamic civilization, science, education, and trade along the Great Silk Road.
