Moscow and Beijing have called on the West to lift sanctions against Tehran, arguing that it is necessary to restore dialogue on Iran’s nuclear program.

China, Russia, and Iran Demand the Lifting of U.S. Nuclear Sanctions
At a trilateral meeting in Beijing, Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov, and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi issued a joint statement demanding an end to U.S. sanctions against Tehran.

The talks took place amid Donald Trump's efforts to reopen discussions on the nuclear deal with Iran. However, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei rejected this initiative, stating that he has no intention of negotiating with an "aggressive government."

As Iran’s key economic partners, Russia and China actively support Tehran in its demand for sanctions relief. In addition to close cooperation in the energy sector, Iran has been supplying drones to Russia, which are being used in the Ukraine conflict.

Moscow and Beijing were also signatories to the 2015 nuclear agreement (JCPOA), under which Iran agreed to limit its uranium enrichment program in exchange for sanctions relief. However, in 2018, the United States withdrew from the deal by Donald Trump’s decision, who labeled it a “bad deal.”

Despite Iran’s strong rhetoric, its participation in negotiations with Russia and China on lifting sanctions casts doubt on Tehran’s official position of refusing dialogue with the West.
