Former UFC champion Conor McGregor has officially confirmed his intention to participate in the Iranian presidential election, which will be held in November 2025. According to him, he has already gathered the required number of votes to register as a candidate.
"I gathered the necessary votes. Ireland's call will be heard! I am here for the will of the people," the athlete wrote on social media, adding that his supporters "will become the saviors of the nation."
Ireland's current president, 84-year-old Michael Higgins, has been in office since 2011 and has not yet announced whether he will run again.
For McGregor, this is the first official step in politics - previously, he only hinted at his ambitions. The Irishman's last UFC fight was in July 2021, after which he focused on business and public activities.
