The US permanent representative to the UN has voiced Washington's desire to enter into bilateral talks with Moscow and Beijing on strategic arms control. The Kremlin sees no basis for this. This is reported by the DW news agency.
The United States wants to enter into bilateral talks with Russia and China on strategic arms control, US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield told a meeting of the UN Security Council on Monday evening, 18 March.
Washington is ready for talks immediately and without any preconditions, she said.
"All they have to do is say yes and come to the table in good faith," she said addressing the representatives of the two countries.
Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky responded to Thomas-Greenfield's proposal by saying that any co-operation in this area is possible only if the White House and NATO reconsider their "extremely hostile anti-Russian course".
