Damascus Asks for Help: Turkey to Support Syria’s Defense
At the IDEF 2025 international defense expo in Istanbul, the Turkish Ministry of National Defense announced that it received an official request from Damascus for help in strengthening Syria’s defense and fighting terrorist groups, particularly ISIS.

Turkey has already begun delivering training, consultations, and technical assistance. Officials emphasized that Ankara’s goal is to enhance Syria’s defense while maintaining its territorial unity and political sovereignty.

The ministry also expressed concern over escalating tensions in southern Syria’s As-Suwayda province, following recent Israeli airstrikes on Damascus and growing unrest among the Druze community.

In response to questions about the integration of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into the Syrian government, which Turkey considers a terrorist group, officials said developments are being closely monitored. They stressed that any agreement must respect Syria’s sovereign rights and regional security, and the SDF must fully comply with terms agreed upon with Damascus.

The Turkish defense ministry reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Syria’s stability and the region’s peace-building process through ongoing cooperation with the new Syrian administration.
