$1.6 billion will be allocated to develop neighborhood infrastructure
Uzbekistan
During a video conference chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a new initiative to combat poverty was announced. The president stressed that improving the infrastructure in neighborhoods is essential to reducing poverty.
According to Mirziyoyev, no matter how much aid is provided, poverty will not decrease unless living conditions in local communities improve. Therefore, $1.6 billion will be allocated next year to develop neighborhood infrastructure.
Of this, 1.2 trillion UZS will be dedicated to installing water pumps and solar panels in 300 of the most disadvantaged areas. Another 2 trillion UZS will be spent on addressing infrastructure issues such as electricity, roads, and internet in 500 neighborhoods.
To carry out this plan, 250 senior officials from ministries will be assigned to oversee the 1,000 most challenging neighborhoods. In addition, each regional and district leader will be tasked with assisting five families living in extreme poverty.
These efforts aim to systematically reduce poverty and improve the living standards of the population.
