Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that Durov's lawyers initially accepted the offer of aid but later stopped responding. Durov holds citizenship in Russia, France, the UAE, and St. Kitts and Nevis.

Durov was detained upon arriving in Paris on a private jet on August 24 and released four days later on bail, with restrictions on leaving the country. French authorities allege that his failure to moderate harmful content on Telegram implicates him in illegal activities.

For the first time since his detention, Durov denied accusations that Telegram is an "anarchist paradise" and promised to strengthen efforts to combat harmful posts. He also noted that French authorities had multiple ways to contact him directly.
