The joint venture BYD Uzbekistan Factory in the Jizzakh region (Uzbekistan) has begun producing its first electric vehicles. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited this innovative plant on June 27, according to the press service of the Uzbek leader.
This marks a new stage in Uzbekistan's automotive industry and is a significant historical event. The plant commenced operations in January this year during the Uzbek president's visit to China. This is the first phase of a $160 million project, which has the capacity to produce 50,000 electric vehicles annually.
The plant is equipped with modern equipment and robotic systems from China. The production process is automated, and a laboratory has been established for high-precision inspection of the geometric dimensions of the electric vehicles.
President Mirziyoyev reviewed these capabilities and spoke with Chinese partners.
Currently, the plant produces the Chazor and Song Plus Champion models. Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the first electric car to come off the production line.
In the coming years, the plant plans to expand its model range. In the second phase of the project, worth $300 million, production is expected to increase to 200,000 electric vehicles per year, and in the third phase, worth $500 million, up to 500,000 electric vehicles.
Today, the plant employs 1,200 people. Last year, 200 workers received training at UzAuto Motors plants. This year, another 92 specialists will be trained in the Chinese cities of Xi'an and Changsha in areas such as quality control, technologies, supply, and equipment maintenance. Once all three phases are implemented, the number of jobs will reach 10,000.
