Shayirbek Tashiev, younger brother of former Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security (GKNB) head Kamchybek Tashiev, voluntarily resigned from his parliamentary seat on March 14, 2026. The decision comes amid compromising materials online and a police inquiry.

The Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan terminated Tashiev’s parliamentary powers early based on his personal statement, rendering his deputy credentials invalid.

Tashiev stated that the decision was difficult but made in the interest of political stability and public trust. He noted that false and defamatory content against him and his family had been circulating on social media, disrupting the peace of his relatives.

The context includes a March 13 interrogation at the Main Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and online leaks: a casino loss exceeding $1.32 million, information about the purchase of an oil base, Pepsi plant construction, and expensive gifts to his wife. After Kamchybek Tashiev’s resignation in February, Shayirbek had previously declared he would not relinquish his mandate.

Public reaction is divided: some view the resignation as forced under pressure and compromising material, others mock or express relief, believing it was time to remove a politician with a controversial profile.

Experts note that Shayirbek Tashiev’s resignation continues a broader purge following Kamchybek Tashiev’s removal, as several deputies and officials from his circle have left posts under similar pressure and leaks in recent weeks.
