The US, NATO allies, and Austria have accused Iranian intelligence services of orchestrating assassinations, abductions, and persecution of individuals in Europe and North America, calling such actions violations of their national sovereignty. A joint statement condemned the growing aggressiveness of Iran’s intelligence activities abroad.

According to the statement, Iranian agencies have increasingly cooperated with international criminal networks to target journalists, dissidents, Jewish citizens, and both current and former officials in Western countries.

The declaration was signed by the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and 11 other NATO members, including Germany, Canada, Belgium, and Spain. Austria, though not a NATO member, also endorsed the document.

In response, Iran’s embassy in London rejected the accusations as “baseless, politically motivated, and hostile.” The UK previously reported 15 foiled plots involving assassinations and abductions between January 2022 and August 2023.
