Germany Strengthens Economic Engagement in Central Asia
On Wednesday, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul (CDU) met with the heads of diplomatic agencies from Central Asian countries in Berlin. The main topic of discussion was economic cooperation and diversification of the region’s international partnerships.

According to Wadephul, Europe seeks broader positioning in Central Asia and aims to offer the region reliability, stability, and openness amid a shifting international order. Germany’s long-term goal is closer integration of Europe with Central Asia, which is located at a strategic geopolitical crossroads.

“Central Asia must resist the growing interests of China and the threats from Russia,” the minister emphasized. He added that Europe can serve as an alternative to the strategic influence of these countries, especially regarding rare earth and critical raw materials.

In recent years, China and Russia have actively invested in the region, expanding economic and strategic ties with Central Asian countries. Experts say Germany aims to provide a new balance of interests and strengthen Europe’s economic presence in the region.
