A drone launched from Iranian territory struck the terminal of Nakhchivan Airport in Azerbaijan, injuring two people and prompting Baku to demand explanations from Tehran.
An Iranian drone struck the airport terminal in Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Azerbaijani media reported, with the country’s Foreign Ministry later confirming the incident.
According to the ministry, several drones were launched from Iranian territory toward Nakhchivan on March 5 at around 12:00 local time.
One of the drones hit the airport terminal building, causing an explosion and injuring two people.
Another drone reportedly fell near a school building in the village of Shekarabad. No injuries were reported in that incident.
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attack, stating that it violates international law and contributes to rising tensions in the region.
Following the incident, Azerbaijan summoned the Iranian ambassador and delivered an official protest note, demanding explanations and urgent measures to prevent similar incidents.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defense stated that it is preparing the necessary response measures to protect the country’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, adding that the attack “will not remain unanswered.”
