The Israeli Air Force carried out an airstrike on the Dahiya district of Beirut. This area is known as a stronghold of the Lebanese radical Shiite movement Hezbollah. According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and the country’s security service (Shin Bet), the strike targeted a senior Hezbollah member.

According to officials, the targeted individual had been working with the Palestinian Hamas movement to plan a major terrorist attack against Israeli civilians. The Israeli military stated that the operation was conducted to eliminate this threat.

Lebanon’s Ministry of Health reported that at least three people were killed and seven others were injured as a result of the attack. AFP news agency reported that the Israeli airstrike completely destroyed the top two floors of a multi-story building.

This is the second Israeli strike on southern Beirut in recent days. On March 28, the Israeli Air Force attacked Hezbollah targets in the Hadath district after rockets were fired from Lebanon toward Israel.

The ceasefire breakdown coincided with Israel’s renewed military operations against Hamas in the Gaza Strip. After both sides failed to agree on terms for extending the ceasefire, the two-month-long truce officially came to an end.
