Israel rejects UN General Assembly resolution, vows retaliation against Hamas

Israel's foreign minister, Eli Cohen, said the country strongly rejects the UN General Assembly's call for a ceasefire and is determined to destroy Hamas.
On Friday, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution favouring an immediate ceasefire in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict area. Votes in favour of the resolution were cast by 120 countries, with 14 against and 45 countries abstaining.
The move by the UN General Assembly drew the expected reaction from Israel, which considers Hamas a terrorist organisation and expresses readiness to defend its territory.
The resolution was yet another document that attempts to bring about a peaceful resolution to the long-running conflict in the region. Nevertheless, Israel emphasised that it would retain the right to defend its borders and national security.
"We reject outright the UN General Assembly despicable call for a ceasefire. Israel intends to eliminate Hamas just as the world dealt with the Nazis and ISIS" Cohen wrote in his Telegram channel.
Now the situation in the region remains tense, and further developments will depend on the response of Israel and Hamas.
