National unity and cohesion are the greatest strength, the greatest wealth
Almost 81 years have passed since the end of World War II. But even decades later, the bitter history of the war, the unparalleled disasters and suffering it brought to humanity, have not faded from memory. On the contrary, these tragic pages of history remind us again and again how priceless peace and tranquility are. This is the profound meaning behind Remembrance and Honor Day, celebrated on May 9.

The head of state took part in a commemorative ceremony held in Victory Park to mark this significant date.

In keeping with tradition, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev laid a wreath at the "Ode to Fortitude" monument. This iconic monument embodies the trials, resilience, and irreparable losses our people endured during the war.

"Today, we express special care and respect to the war and labor veterans who are among us in good health, and to all our esteemed representatives of the older generation. This complex can rightfully be called a sacred place, glorifying the courage and heroism of the multinational people who made a worthy contribution to the Great Victory," said the head of state.

According to available data, approximately 2 million residents of our country, whose population at the time was 6.8 million, participated in the bloody battles against fascism. Of these, approximately 540,000 were killed, 158,000 went missing, more than 50,000 died in concentration camps from unimaginable torment and suffering, and over 60,000 returned home disabled.

The heroism of Uzbek soldiers and officers is also evidenced by the fact that approximately 214,000 of them were awarded military orders and medals.

During the war, our country became a strong rear base for the front. Military equipment, weapons, clothing, and food were regularly sent to the battlefields. Despite extremely difficult conditions, our people welcomed and cared for approximately 1.5 million people evacuated from combat zones, including 250,000 orphans who had lost their parents.

Representatives of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Uzbekistan, government and public organizations, mahalla activists, and older generations also participated in the event. They laid flowers at the foot of the memorial.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev also visited the Alley of National Heroes in Victory Park and paid tribute to the memory of the military and law enforcement officers who died defending the country during the years of independence.

"It was no coincidence that we erected the memorial complex 'Selflessly Devoted to the People' here." "It serves as a reminder that defending the Motherland is the sacred duty of every generation, a symbol of the continuity of patriotic traditions," noted President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The memorial complex is inscribed with the names of 196 military and law enforcement officers who heroically died during the years of independence while defending the freedom of the Motherland and peace in the country.

The head of state expressed deep gratitude to the parents who raised such courageous, brave, and truly devoted sons.

Our people will never forget the selfless heroic sons who, in the prime of their lives, became a shield against the enemy and sacrificed themselves for the Motherland. In 2025 alone, this memorial complex was visited by approximately 650,000 of our compatriots and foreign guests.

Numerous spiritual and educational events, history and patriotism lessons, and "Hour of the Future" classes are held here. It was noted that such work has important spiritual and educational significance and must be consistently continued.

This year, the 690th anniversary of the birth of our great ancestor, Amir Temur, is being widely celebrated in our country and abroad.

The ideals of statehood, courage, and heroism established by the great Sahibkiran remain strong to this day. This glorious tradition is carried on with dignity by our courageous soldiers, officers, and generals. They are our greatest asset, a reliable and steadfast shield for the Motherland.

"We see a new generation of Alpomysh, Manguberdi, and Amir Temur standing here today in formation, represented by the students of the Temurbek Schools and our brave soldiers. The rich legacy of our great ancestors, their school of knowledge and experience, is returning not only to our museums but also to our hearts. It's as if they are coming to life again, and together with us, they are building a New Uzbekistan, laying the foundation for the Third Renaissance. Everyone who visits the Center for Islamic Civilization in Tashkent, the State Museum of the History of the Temurids, or the Imam Bukhari Complex in Samarkand deeply feels this," said President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

As noted, defending the Motherland is an issue that is always on the agenda of the state and the people. It is a sacred and great duty for all of us. Its importance is especially heightened in these extremely tense times.

This year, the 35th anniversary of our country's independence will be celebrated in a grand and solemn manner. There is undoubtedly profound meaning in the fact that this great date is celebrated under the noble motto, "United Motherland, United People, We Will Build a New Life, a New Future!"

"Today, we see conflicts and wars raging in neighboring regions. Life itself once again confirms that maintaining national unity and cohesion in such difficult circumstances is our greatest strength and greatest treasure. Defending the Motherland is our greatest and most honorable mission. Our brave and courageous sons, deeply aware of this truth and always true to their military oath, deserve the highest words of gratitude and respect," the head of state said.

It was noted that the Alley of National Heroes must remain a sacred place where the voice of courage resounds day and night, calling for the struggle for peace and serving to educate thousands and millions of defenders of the Motherland.

It was emphasized that comprehensive support for the families and children of sons who heroically died in the line of duty to the Motherland will continue in the future.
