Israel Resumes Strikes on Southern Lebanon Amid Hezbollah Disarmament Talks
Israeli warplanes carried out a series of strikes late Monday and early Tuesday across southern Lebanon, targeting several areas including Sidon, the country’s third-largest city. A three-story building in a busy commercial district was completely destroyed.

Local residents said the building housed workshops and mechanical facilities and was not residential. No fatalities were reported, though at least one person was injured and taken to hospital. Rescue teams continue to search the rubble.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the strikes, saying they targeted weapons depots, underground and surface military facilities, and arms-production sites linked to Hezbollah and Hamas. The military said steps were taken to minimize harm to civilians.

The strikes come ahead of a Lebanese cabinet meeting scheduled for Thursday, where officials are expected to discuss Hezbollah’s disarmament. Army commander General Rudolph Haykal is set to brief the government on security operations south of the Litani River.

The disarmament process follows a 14-month conflict between Israel and Hezbollah that began in October 2023 and ended with a U.S.-brokered ceasefire in November 2024. Israel and the United States have criticized Lebanon’s efforts as insufficient, while the United Nations has condemned continued Israeli strikes and reported civilian casualties since the ceasefire.
